Farm Picture Friday #38

Being led........

“Hard work spotlights the character in people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all”.  – Sam Ewing

Today’s Farm Picture Friday is a very special one to our family.  This is a picture of our very good friend Brian.  Here he is leading a mare back to the barn to be unsaddled.   Brian, like my husband Seth, are both ones who turn up their sleeves.

Brian and his family, wife Amanda and two small boys, live in western Kansas.   In November we were able to spend a few days with them at their home.  That is when this picture was taken.  We had a wonderful time and miss them very much.

When we first met this couple, they were newlyweds.  They bought a house from us and the night we sat down to work out a contract, they stayed well past mid-night.  We got along that good and had so much in common.

The more we got to know one another, the more we realized how much we had in common and how dates play a part in the commonality.  Where is this going?  Well, tomorrow is Seth’s birthday.  Sunday is Brian’s.  Seth is exactly one day older.  My birthday and Amanda’s are both in November. Two of our father’s also share a birthday.  See the commonality?  Yup, it is there in a big way!

I could go on and on about this family who we love, but for now all I want to say is; Happy Birthday Guys!  I hope you both have a great day!

Blessings to you and to birthday guys who turn up their sleeves and get the work done,

  1. I love when you stumble across people in life that you just instantly connect with. It’s fun finding out everything you have in common and all of the similarities that are there 🙂 Great picture!

I am so proud of you and your work in sharing the living part of agriculture. You have done an awesome job of representing it and giving people a honest look inside. Thanks for posting & we miss you guys to!

    • Thank you so much! So glad I stumbled back across this picture. Probably my favorite from that great day at the farm and it was the perfect time to share it. Hope all is well!

At our farm, we use “Japanese horses” (as my husband calls our 4-wheelers) to round up cattle. However, I love the photo! I think the horse is more photogenic than our 4-wheelers. 🙂

    • Nothing like watching a cowboy with his horse. 🙂 They are more photogenic, Kim! We have the four wheel kind on our farm too. Easier to feed. Check out FPF #37. You may appreciate that picture as well.

How neat! Similar to what Caitlin said, it is always a great surprise to unexpectedly meet people that you become lifelong friends with. Love the photo, too.
